Hi, I'm Courtney Bowers Marhev, your friendly neighborhood jewelry geek! I specialize in fine jewelry appraisals, sourcing vintage and antique jewelry, and coordinating custom jewelry orders.
A bit about my me: Beyond the academic endeavors listed on my "Research and Publications" page, I have had years of experience in different “facets” of the jewelry and antiques industries. In New York, I worked coordinating shipments from auction houses for an art & antiques logistics company, facilitated sales for private jewelry dealers at an upstairs office in Rockefeller Center, managed the SoHo studio for the president of a successful art jewelry start-up company, worked with clients at an upscale antique jewelry boutique in the Carlyle Hotel, and as a photographer and researcher for antique dealers. Meanwhile, I earned my Master's degree in the History of Decorative Arts and Design from Parsons/ The New School at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, and published articles on topics which practically fell into my lap. When I first started working in New York's Diamond District, I met a talented bench jeweler from Poland who would end up becoming a Master of his craft, and my partner. Through years of witnessing the creation of elite-quality jewelry, and of dealing with workshops, stone dealers, casting houses, lapidaries, and everything else, I gained a familiarity with the ins-and-outs of jewelry manufacture. I ended up managing the office of our wholesale workshop on 47th Street, which crafted custom fine jewelry for private dealers. Although the business achieved some modest success and I loved New York, I received a great opportunity in my hometown of San Antonio, where I am now happy to reside. I am excited to now offer my connections and expertise to this gracious market.
If you need an appraisal, if you are looking for a piece of vintage, antique, or custom jewelry, or perhaps a certain type of stone, setting, or watch, I can hook you up. Please feel free to contact me with any questions! - Courtney
